Description

Dreadnought was the epitome of the transatlantic passenger liner of the age of sail. Launched in Newburyport, Massachusetts in 1853, she flew the house flag of the Red Cross Line and was easily recognized at sea by the Cross of St. George emblazoned on her fore lower topsail. She was exceptionally strongly built and had a reputation for being able to withstand almost any amount of driving in heavy weather.
