This view of Commercial Wharf offers a play on the silhouettes of several whaleships in port.  It retrospect it seems strange that such a primary industry as whale oil production could survive with its headquarters on an off shore island, but before the silting up of the main channel caused shipowners to move to New Bedford, Nantucket was the “Whaling Capital of The World.”
