Clear

Description

Savannah began with an idea advanced by James Oglethorpe. The reason for settling the colony was twofold: to give British debtors a  new start in life with a parcel of land, seeds, and tools; and to provide a buffer zone between the Indians and Spanish and the Colony of the Carolinas, especially Charleston.
