Description
This scene in Vineyard Haven was developed from an on-the-spot sketch in 1983. The graceful topsail schooner Shenandoah is a replica and can be seen lying at her anchor in the harbor at all times of the year when not cruising with student sailors. The buildings are of the same appearance as those that were common a 100 years ago, and so, though at first sight it seems to be a retrospective subject, in fact it is modern. |
